After two sweet dishes lets move on to something savory, spicy and a little sweet at the same time. Here comes the recipe of my all time favorite, sweet and spicy chicken fry. This is my mums signature dish. Sooo easy yet finger licking good. This dish makes me drool, literally!
Actually my mom created this recipe while trying to imitate the famous chicken 65 of the Najaf restaurant in Dubai. Even though it didn’t turn out to be like the original 65 this version of moms had this great, unbelievable taste that it has become pretty much a weekly staple in our house.
You guys definitely should try out this recipe and i assure you that this will soon be a hot favorite among your family and friends.
Chicken – 600gm
Kashmiri chili powder- 2tsp
Turmeric powder- 1/4tsp
Green chillies- 2-3 roughly chopped
Curry leaves- 1 sprig
Tomato ketchup- 4-5 tbsp
Sweet chili sauce- 1tbsp
Soy sauce- 1/2 tsp
Sugar- a pinch
Salt to taste
Oil for shallow frying
Butter- 2 tbsp
- Marinate the chicken pieces in chili powder, turmeric powder and salt. Keep it aside for half an hour.
- Shallow fry these chicken pieces till cooked well and slightly charred on the outside.
- Melt butter in a non-stick pan. Add a tsp of the oil in which you fried the chicken, if any left.
- Splutter the curry leaves and then add green chillies. To that add tomato ketchup and sweet chili sauce. Sauté for about 4-5 mins. The sauce should become slightly thick.
- To this add soy sauce and sugar. Sauté again.
- Then add the fried chicken pieces to this mixture and mix well till the sauce is coated well all over the chicken.
- Serve immediately.
Notes:
✔️Chicken should be fried to perfection, which means chicken shouldn’t be too dry. You can fry the chicken ahead of time but mix it in the sauce just before serving.

This looks so delicious di :). Can I bake the marinated chicken and broil it for the crispiness? (Just want to avoid frying). Do you think that will work?
di i made this. Its delicious!! .But I baked it :). I marinated the chicken like your recipe said, then i gave it a good sear in hot pan and then baked the pieces at 375F for 45 min. In the meantime I made the sauce, and finally added the baked chicken peices. Mine looks a different from yours, mine is shiny and the sauce is sticky like sesame chicken (chinese), guess its because i baked it. Your recipe is really good!!! 🙂
Tried the sweet and spicy chicken and was yumm
Yaay! So happy to know. Thank you for taking the time to send the feedback.
What type of sweet chili sauce did you use?
Hey. I used the Asian style chili sauce. I used Kimball Thai chili sauce.
